V-Type Idler Bracket for Conveyor Return Support

What a V-Type Idler Bracket Does

A V-Type Idler Bracket is the mounting frame that holds two return idler rollers in a shallow V arrangement beneath the carrying side of a conveyor belt. Instead of letting the belt run flat on a single return roller, this bracket tilts the two rollers toward each other so the belt forms a slight valley. The result is better belt training, reduced spillage at the edges, and less chance of the belt wandering off to one side on the return strand. In many conveyor support layouts, the V-type idler bracket works together with the conveyor bracket system, the idler roller set, and the conveyor belt itself to keep the return run stable and centered.

It belongs to the return side of the conveyor, not the carrying side. That distinction matters because return brackets are often confused with troughing brackets, transition brackets, and impact brackets, which serve different positions along the conveyor.

Construction and Common Materials

Most V-type brackets are fabricated from angle steel, channel steel, or bent steel plate. The two inclined arms are welded or bolted to a base that mounts on the conveyor frame. Slots or drilled holes allow the idler shafts to sit at the correct angle, and the bracket width is matched to the belt width and the roller diameter being used.

Typical build details include:

V-Type Idler Bracket

  • Inclined arms set to a shallow V, often around 10 to 20 degrees from horizontal, though the exact angle depends on the design
  • Mounting holes positioned to suit the idler shaft and the frame hole spacing
  • Reinforcing gussets or a folded edge to resist bending under belt load
  • Painted or galvanized finish for general conveying environments

Because the bracket is a support component rather than a rotating part, its life usually depends on the frame strength, the bolt torque, and how well the rollers sit in their seats.

Where It Is Used

V-type return brackets appear wherever a conveyor needs reliable return belt support. Two common settings are sand and gravel lines and coal preparation plants, where dust, fines, and uneven loading make belt training important. They are also found in crushing and screening circuits, cement plants, and power station coal handling systems.

V-Type Idler Bracket

In a sand and gravel line, a V-type bracket under the return strand helps keep the belt centered after the discharge point, especially when the belt is lightly loaded. In a coal preparation plant, the same bracket helps control the return belt in a wet or dusty environment, where a flat return roller might allow the belt to drift.

How It Fits With Rollers and Belt Width

The bracket is selected together with the idler roller diameter and the belt width. Common belt widths include B500, B650, B800, B1000, B1200, B1400, B1600, B1800, B2000, and B2200. Common return roller diameters include Ø89, Ø108, Ø133, Ø159, and Ø194.

These values are reference data, not fixed pairings. A B800 belt might use a Ø108 roller in one design and a different diameter in another. What matters is that the bracket arms, shaft seats, and mounting hole spacing suit the chosen roller and frame.

V-Type Idler Bracket

Belt width Common roller diameter Typical bracket role
B500 Ø89 Light return support
B650 Ø89 or Ø108 Return belt training
B800 Ø108 or Ø133 General return support
B1000 Ø133 or Ø159 Medium-duty return support
B1200 Ø133 or Ø159 Wider belt return support
B1400 and above Ø159 or Ø194 Heavy return support

The table shows common combinations only. It does not mean one belt width can only use one roller diameter, and it does not define a fixed shaft size from belt width alone.

Buyer Checklist

Before ordering, confirm the belt width, the return roller diameter, the shaft end shape, the frame hole spacing, and the required V angle. Ask whether the bracket is fixed or adjustable, since some designs allow the V angle to be set on site. Check the material thickness and the finish against the environment. Also confirm that the bracket is a return-side V-type unit and not a troughing bracket, transition bracket, or impact bracket, because those are different parts with different mounting positions.

A V-Type Idler Bracket is a small but useful part of the return support system. When it matches the conveyor belt, the idler roller, and the frame, it helps the belt run straight and keeps maintenance predictable.
